Breaking: Akwatia MP, Ernest Kumi Reported Dead

Reports coming in says the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi has died. According to sources, he died after battling illness which kept him in the hospital for sometime now and that has also kept him from his parliamentary duties for a while now.

According to sources close to his family and party, Mr. Kumi died on Monday, July 7, 2025. The cause of death has not yet been officially disclosed. As of now, neither the NPP nor the Parliament of Ghana has released an official statement or details about his funeral arrangements.

Mr. Kumi was serving his first term in Parliament after winning the Akwatia seat during the December 2024 general elections. His victory came in one of the most fiercely contested races of the polls.

Akwatia, a known swing constituency between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was a key battleground in the 2024 elections. Kumi’s win was marked by a tense political atmosphere, with reports of vote buying, irregularities at some polling stations, and other controversies surrounding the electoral process.

His passing marks a significant loss to his constituents and the NPP at large.
