Ablekuma North Re-run: This Is Shameful- Salam Mustapha Takes on EC

The National Youth Organizer of the opposition NPP, Salam Mustapha has described as shameful the decision of the Electoral Commission to re-run elections in 19 polling stations of the Ablekuma North Constituency.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana  announced that it will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency following the dispute over the authenticity of election results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.

In a press release dated July 2, and signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, the Commission stated that the decision was reached after a follow-up meeting with representatives of the two main political parties—the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

The dispute stems from concerns raised by the NDC over the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations, which the party claims were provided by the NPP and lacked sufficient verification. The NDC insisted that the entire election be rerun in those 37 stations.

On the other hand, the NPP maintained that only three outstanding polling station results needed to be collated to finalize the outcome, arguing that the scanned Pink Sheets had already been verified by NDC agents during the process.

But reacting to the decision by the EC on his Facebook wall, the NPP Youth Organizer  wrote,”

Shameful! Disgusting!

EC- you have been very vocal in your communication that 3 polling stations are outstanding to complete collation. How, when and why did you arrive at a rerun of not just the three but 19 polling stations?

You’re being bias or you have been intimidated by the NDC government? If it’s the later, then say so boldly and let the records capture same’.

The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, and the Commission has assured the public of its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the process. The Ghana Police Service has been called upon to provide adequate security to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the election.
