NPP To Hold Presidential Primaries On January 31st, 2026

The opposition NPP will be electing their flagbearer for the 2028 elections earlier than expected as it the party has set 31st January, 2026 for the Presidential Primaries. The decision was taken at a National Council and Executive Committee Meetings of the party at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

Announcing the decision after the two meetings which lasted for hours, General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua disclosed that the decision on the timing of the Presidential primaries will not be subject to approval by the delegates conference as the National Council has, by the powers conferred on it, approved the same.

“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries. Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place,” he said.

Meanwhile, a nine-member committee chaired by former Bekwai MP, Joseph Osei Owusu has been selected to plan the July 2025 national delegates conference to adopt other recommendations for the amendment of the party’s constitution.
DISCIPLINE IN THE PARTY
Justin Kodua also revealed that the National Council raised concerns of indiscipline by some members of the party. ”Certain individuals were cautioned today about some utterances they have been making on social media, on radio and TV stations. The chairman for the occasion stood in to plead on behalf of those individuals and requested that the National Council gives them the last chance.
In the wisdom of the National Council, they accepted the plea from the chairman of the occasion and rather cautioned them”, he stated. He called on members to show respect to the party and members.
