No one should be treated as guilty until proven – Deputy A-G on arrest of Kwabena Adu Boahene

The Deputy Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Justice Srem Sai, has emphasised the importance of due process, cautioning against treating individuals as guilty before a court of law determines otherwise.

His remarks come in the wake of the arrest of the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Mr Boahene was apprehended at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon his arrival from London on a British Airways flight.

The joint operation, conducted at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, involved EOCO investigators led by Deputy Director Raymond Archer and officials from the Attorney-General’s Department.

In a Facebook post on Friday, March 21, Dr. Srem Sai disclosed that he had visited Mr Boahene and his wife, Madam Angela Adjei-Boateng, who are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

He noted that both individuals had access to legal representation and were being treated well.

Dr Sai stressed the need for fairness in legal proceedings, stating, “No one, regardless of the nature of the suspicion or accusations, should be treated as guilty until they’re actually proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.”
