FDA recalls Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte products over health and safety concerns

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an urgent product recall for Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte, specifically the Tetra Pak (250ml) and Canned (330ml Pétillante) variants.

These products were discovered on the Ghanaian market and promoted on social media platforms.

According to the FDA, the recall is necessary for the following reasons:
1. The importer of these products operates in violation of Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) as they are not registered with the FDA. Consequently, the sale and distribution of these products are illegal.
2. The products are unregistered with the FDA.
3. The packaging and size of these products are deemed deceptive and misleading, posing risks such as potential accidental alcohol ingestion by children, which could endanger their health and safety.

The FDA has directed the following actions:
– Consumers are strongly advised not to purchase or consume these unregistered products.
– Retailers and wholesalers must immediately halt the distribution and sale of these items.
– All stocks of the recalled products should be returned to the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited or the FDA’s offices across the country.
– The importer has been sanctioned, and regulatory measures are being enforced to ensure compliance.

The FDA remains committed to safeguarding public health and safety.

They urge the public to report any information regarding the sale of these products via their official communication channels, including www.fdaghana.gov.gh, phone lines (0551112224/5), or email (fda@fda.gov.gh).

The Chief Executive Officer of the FDA assures the public that these measures aim to prevent potential harm and uphold health and safety standards nationwide.
