My appointments are based on merit and competence – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to prioritize the contributions and talents of indigenes from the Volta Region in his government’s appointments, emphasizing that the process will be guided by merit, competence, and regional balance.

This assurance comes in the wake of the vandalism of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in Ho, reportedly by some individuals expressing dissatisfaction over the perceived exclusion of a Ho Central indigene from the President’s recent ministerial appointments.

Speaking during his visit to Ho as part of his “Thank You” tour, President Mahama acknowledged the expectations for appointments from the Volta Region and reassured residents of their inclusion.

“I also recognize the anticipation of appointments from this region, and as has been said, so far so good. Let me assure you that your contributions and talents have not been overlooked,” he said.

He underscored that appointments would be based on key principles, saying, “Appointments will be guided by principles of merit, competence, regional balance, gender equity, and availability to serve.”

Reiterating his commitment to the region, the President assured residents that the Volta Region would not be sidelined in terms of appointments or development.

“I do not doubt that the people of the Volta Region possess the resources and will to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of our nation. The Volta Region has long been a victim of unfulfilled promises, but as I said, I assure you that this era of neglect will end under this administration,” he stated.

The President’s remarks were met with optimism as residents expressed hope for a renewed focus on addressing the region’s developmental needs.
