We will resist any attempt to introduce new taxes -GNCCI

The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has warned government not to introduce new taxes or increase taxes in the 2025 budget.

According to Chief Executive Officer for the chamber, Mark Badu-Aboagye the business community will resist any attempt to impose new taxes after the electronic levy (e-levy) and other taxes are scrapped.

“If Minister of Finance or the government for that matter scraps the betting tax and the E-levy and tries to find another way to introduce a different tax in the budget we are going to resist it, I can assure you”, he said on PM Express.

He assured that the chamber will collaborate with government to compel other businesses to pay their taxes.

This move, he explained will be pertinent in aiding government rake in more revenue I the future.

“We want to assure him that we will work with them to identify businesses that do not want to pay taxes” He stressed

He stressed the need to add value to the raw materials and reduce the importation of some products.

Mr. Badu-Aboagye urged government to find innovative ways to support local businesses and industries.

“Let’s work on protecting our local currency from the short to the long term. We have capacity to produce most of the things we import and that’s where we need to come from”

“If we make conscious effort to reduce our import and produce here, we can save the Ghana cedi but if we continue to import then the cedi will continue to depreciate.” He said
