Randy Abbey chairs new management committee of Black Stars, Stephen Appiah is Vice

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the formation of a new Management Committee for the Black Stars, tasked with overseeing the administrative and logistical operations of the senior male national team.

The committee will be chaired by Dr Randy Abbey, an Executive Council member of the GFA. Dr Abbey’s responsibilities include leading engagements with the government and other key stakeholders. Supporting him as Vice-Chairman is Stephen Appiah, a former captain of the Black Stars, who will focus on player relations while assisting with overall leadership.

Other members of the committee include Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and an Executive Council member of the GFA, and Moses Armah, President of Medeama Sporting Club. Both Aboabire and Armah will handle operations and matchday activities, ensuring the interests of sponsors, partners, and collaborators are addressed.

Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996 and leader of the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League champions, will serve as a member with responsibilities for special duties.

The GFA highlighted the wide-ranging responsibilities of the committee, which include the effective management and strategic planning of the Black Stars’ activities. The committee will act as a bridge between the technical team and the GFA, ensuring proper camping arrangements, logistical support, and adherence to activity schedules for matches and tournaments.

“The Management Committee’s duties will include…serving as a link between the Technical Team and the GFA, ensuring adequate camping arrangements, providing logistical support, and paying regular visits to the team in camp,” the GFA stated.

In addition, the committee will liaise with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure timely release of funds for team operations, oversee travel arrangements, and promote conduct befitting Ghanaian ambassadors. They will also establish policies for the effective support of the playing body and officials while maintaining harmony between the committee, technical team, and players.

The Marketing and Communications Departments of the GFA will work closely with the committee to meet sponsorship commitments and ensure effective communication about the Black Stars’ activities.

GFA President Kurt E.S. Okraku expressed confidence in the committee’s expertise and commitment. “We are excited to announce the formation of this new Management Committee, which brings together a team of experienced and dedicated individuals who are passionate about Ghana football,” he said. “We are confident that they will work tirelessly to support the Black Stars and ensure their success.”

The formation of the new committee marks a fresh chapter in the Black Stars’ quest for glory, with stakeholders hopeful that this team of seasoned professionals will propel Ghana’s national team to greater heights.
