Soldiers on duty have right to defend themselves with lethal force – GAF warns

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning to the public following a series of incidents involving attempts by mobs to disarm military personnel.

These personnel had been deployed in support of the Ghana Police Service to help restore law and order in various parts of the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 10, the GAF expressed concern over the rising hostility towards security forces carrying out their duties and cautioned that such actions would not be tolerated.

According to the GAF, soldiers on authorized duty have the legal right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and property—potentially including the use of lethal force if required to preserve life.

The statement highlighted that these actions of aggression against military personnel not only jeopardize the safety of the officers involved but also threaten public order and the nation’s stability.
