Suspects in Awutu Senya East shooting incident arrested

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended four suspects linked to a shooting incident in the Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region.

The suspects have been identified as Awudu Yakubu, Kwabena Essah, Hakeem Bawa and Issaka Mashual, who are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The incident left one person dead and another injured.

Items recovered from the suspects include an AK-47 rifle loaded with 69 rounds of ammunition.

The injured victim in this case is receiving medical care, while the deceased’s body has been sent to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that all incidents are under thorough investigation and that measures are in place to maintain peace and order during the ongoing elections.

“The four suspects are currently in custody assisting the police with investigations”, the police said in a release.

The shooting incident

The fatal shooting incident targeted the vehicle of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

The tragic event reportedly occurred near the candidate’s residence, creating panic within the community.

Eyewitness accounts suggested the incident began as a heated dispute among party supporters before escalating into violence.

The Gunmen opened fire on the candidate’s vehicle.

Earlier in the day, a separate shooting incident at Odupongpehe Zion Park, unrelated to politics, left one person injured.

The altercation, linked to a chieftaincy dispute, occurred near a polling station.

The suspect reportedly had an argument with another individual, which led to the shooting.

The gunfire missed the intended target, hitting an innocent bystander instead.
