NSMQ24: Botwe beats Augusco and Ketasco in thrilling grand finale

The ultimate trophy of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has finally found its way home, and this time, it’s home for good—for the third time—for Mfantsipim School.

The Botwe Boys fought tooth and nail to secure their place in the grand finale after eliminating two formidable powerhouses; Prempeh College in the quarter-finals and Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec) in the semi-finals, both in a heart-stopping tie-breaker.

But the boys from Botwe were not about to let their guard down in the final showdown! Mfantsipim School gave it everything they had to secure the coveted trophy and etch their name into NSMQ history once again.

Facing off against two-time champions, St. Augustine’s College (Augusco), and two-time finalists, Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco), the Botwe Boys were in for a tough ride.

Augusco, who had dominated the competition from the start, was taken by surprise when the Botwe Boys, in a moment of brilliance, staged a stunning comeback in the final round to seize the lead.

However, Mfantsipim School’s victory was far from secured as they narrowly escaped defeat from St. Augustine’s College with the help of Keta SHTS, who in a dazzling display of brilliance, delivered a correct answer on the final riddle question.

In a dramatic finish, the Botwe Boys clinched victory with 47 points, edging out St. Augustine’s by the slimmest of margins, as Augusco finished with 46 points. Keta SHTS closed out the contest with 32 points, cementing their place as worthy competitors.

This victory marks a triumphant moment for the Botwe Boys, who proved that grit, teamwork, and academic brilliance always win the day. The NSMQ trophy is finally home, and the Botwe Boys are ready to celebrate this hard-fought victory.

The contest kicked off with a dazzling display of brilliance as Mfantsipim School and St. Augustine’s College went head-to-head, finishing the first round tied at 24 points, while Keta SHTS struggled to keep pace with 13 points.

The intensity soared in the second round, with Augusco stretching their lead to 34 points. But the Botwe Boys stayed relentless, closing in with 31 points, keeping the pressure alive. Ketasco, though fighting hard, slipped to 12 points.

The atmosphere in the auditorium was electric as supporters from all three schools erupted in cheers, rallying their teams with unwavering passion. In the third round, the competition hit a new peak, with each school showcasing its intellectual prowess.

As the fourth round concluded, St. Augustine surged ahead with 46 points, solidifying their dominance. Mfantsipim trailed close behind with 44 points, keeping their hopes alive, while Keta SHTS held steady with 26 points, determined not to be outshone.

With victory seemingly within Augusco’s grasp, their supporters braced for the win—but the final round had other plans. In a stunning turn of events, Mfantsipim School unleashed a brilliant comeback, seizing the lead with 47 points. Augusco followed closely with 46 points, while Ketasco finished with 32 points after a spirited performance.

In a dramatic twist, Keta SHTS answered the last riddle question correctly, giving Mfantsipim just the edge they needed to secure the trophy. The Botwe Boys clinched victory by the slimmest of margins, leaving supporters stunned and thrilled by the breathtaking finale.
