Akatsi South MCE outlines first-year projects

The Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, Daniel Dagba, has highlighted a number of development projects completed and ongoing during his first year in office.

Speaking in an interview with Channel 247 journalist Thywill Enam, Mr. Dagba said his administration has focused on improving healthcare, education, water access, roads and market infrastructure across the municipality.

Among the completed projects, he listed a medical consultants’ bungalow at the Akatsi South Municipal Hospital, mechanized boreholes at Akeve CHIPS Compound, Dzagadze CHIPS Compound and Gefia Health Centre, as well as a police commander’s bungalow.

He added that a nine-seater water closet facility at the Akatsi Market and the Wute Health Centre have also been completed.

On ongoing projects, the MCE disclosed that construction of a CHIPS compound at Wuta is about 90 percent complete, while another CHIPS compound is under construction at Anefedo.

He noted that educational infrastructure projects currently underway include a three-unit classroom block at Wodame Basic School and a six-unit classroom block at Wuta.

Mr. Dagba further revealed that 20 mechanized boreholes are being drilled across the municipality to improve water supply, while work has also started on a 24-hour market to boost local trade.

In the roads sector, he said 80.5 kilometres of inner-city roads are being reshaped, including routes from Akatsi Junction to Live Road, Akatsi Junction to Moyi Road, Ahlihadzi roads and Semanu Wuxor roads.

He also highlighted projects funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund, facilitated by Member of Parliament Bernard Ahiafor. These include a 12-unit two-storey classroom block, a two-storey 12-unit girls’ dormitory at Akatsi Senior High Technical School, a 306-capacity boys’ dormitory and a 12-seater water closet facility.

Mr. Dagba commended former President John Dramani Mahama for increasing the District Assemblies Common Fund allocation from GHS 260,000 to GHS 19 million, saying the move would accelerate development across districts nationwide.
