The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has announced a nationwide protest over the growing teacher recruitment backlog affecting trainees and trained teachers across the country.
In a statement dated April 23, 2026, the association said the demonstration is in response to the limited number of recruitment slots recently announced, which it says does not adequately address the increasing number of qualified teachers awaiting employment.
According to TTAG, the protest will involve teacher trainees and trained teachers within the 2022–2024 backlog. The association said the move follows extensive engagement and consultations over concerns raised by members regarding delayed employment opportunities.
TTAG stated that Friday, April 24, 2026, has been designated for the nationwide demonstration, which will be held across Colleges of Education nationwide, with a national convergence in Accra.
The association noted that security arrangements have been coordinated with the relevant authorities to ensure a peaceful and orderly exercise across all participating institutions.
TTAG further urged all 49 Colleges of Education to participate in the protest with discipline, urgency and unity.
The planned action is expected to draw attention to calls for a more responsive and inclusive teacher recruitment process, as many trained teachers continue to wait for placement into the education sector.
The demonstration adds to growing concerns over graduate unemployment and staffing gaps within Ghana’s education system. Stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the outcome of the protest and any response from government authorities.
