Samuel Nartey George has stated that social commentator Headucator could face possible prosecution under the proposed Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, if the legislation is passed into law.
Speaking during deliberations on the bill on Friday, April 23, the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament argued that individuals who publicly identify with or promote LGBTQ-related conduct could be investigated under provisions of the proposed legislation.
According to Sam George, Headucator could be cited based on alleged public statements and social media activity, in addition to any other evidence authorities may consider relevant under the bill.
He said criminal liability would depend not only on statements made publicly, but also on whether there were actions that could be interpreted as supporting or promoting conduct prohibited under the proposed law.
The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely described by supporters as a family values measure and by critics as an anti-LGBTQ bill, has generated intense national and international debate over human rights, freedom of expression, and constitutional protections in Ghana.
If passed, the bill is expected to face further legal and political scrutiny before implementation.
