New Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has declared that no player is guaranteed a place in Ghana’s national team, insisting that every squad member must earn the right to wear the famous Black Stars jersey.
Speaking during his official unveiling ceremony, the experienced coach outlined a merit-based selection policy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, stressing that reputation alone will not secure call-ups.
“No one owns the national team shirt,” Queiroz said. “Players dream to represent the country, and it is our job to give them a fair and right opportunity.”
The Portuguese tactician explained that his main focus is selecting players based on current performance, fitness, experience, attitude and character. According to him, national team football requires more than club form because of the pressure and responsibility that comes with representing Ghana.
Queiroz also revealed plans to closely assess home-based players before making final squad decisions, saying he wants every eligible player to have a genuine chance to impress.
“I didn’t want to go for the final selection without having the opportunity to see them, to be with them and analyze them,” he added.
The former international manager said the Black Stars team must remain open to players who prove themselves on the pitch, whether based locally or abroad.
“For me, the national team is a house without windows, without doors. Inside the house, it can only be the players who deserve to be there,” Queiroz stated.
