The Gomoa Central District Assembly, in collaboration with traditional authorities, has officially cut sod for the construction of a 24-hour economy market at Gomoa Afransi, marking a significant step toward boosting local commerce and development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Hackman Kobina Adu, described the project as a transformative initiative that will deliver a modern market facility to serve traders and residents across the district. He emphasized that the project forms part of the government’s broader 24-hour economy policy, aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating employment opportunities.
According to the DCE, the new market will be equipped with key social amenities, including a police station, fire station, and a school, to ensure safety, accessibility, and convenience for traders—particularly market women who often operate beyond regular hours.
“This initiative fulfills a major campaign promise, and we are confident that the 24-hour economy policy is here to stay,” he stated, urging residents to support the project and maintain confidence in the government’s commitment to development.
Hon. Adu further revealed that the project is expected to generate jobs for local residents upon completion, contributing to improved livelihoods within the district. He added that ongoing road reconstruction efforts in the area will complement the market project, positioning Gomoa Central as a key business hub in the Central Region.
The contractor for the project, Hope Clinton, assured stakeholders that construction would be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He appealed for cooperation from chiefs and residents throughout the construction period and pledged to prioritize the employment of local labour.
“We will engage local workers and expect them to demonstrate commitment and diligence to ensure the success of the project,” he noted.
On behalf of the traditional authorities, Nana Okatakyi Oklu Mensa, Chief of Gomoa Achease, expressed appreciation to the government for initiating the project. He commended the swift fulfillment of campaign promises and pledged the full support of the chiefs to ensure timely completion.
“I am impressed by the speed with which this promise is being fulfilled. We will continue to collaborate with the assembly and the contractor to ensure this project is delivered successfully,” he said.
The 24-hour market project is expected to significantly enhance trading activities in Gomoa Central and serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the district.
